The Plaza Hotel. A popular place to check out…permanently.
The Plaza Hotel came to life on October 1st, 1907. But even before it opened, The Plaza played host to death when an ex-cop was thrown from the upper floors during a labor dispute. Six-year-old heiress Barbara Hutton discovered her mother’s body (likely a suicide) in their Plaza suite, setting her on a tragic course that earned her the title, “The poor little rich girl.” John Harbeck, whose first wife sued him for bigamy, only to have it revealed that SHE was the bigamist, died there, as did his second wife, who was crushed in the Plaza’s revolving doors on New Year’s Eve 1929.
